COMPOSER

Heinrich Strecker was born on the 24 th February1893 in the 5 th Vienna district, educated in monastery at Theux in Belgique. At this school his musical career was established. He learned 12 musical instruments and he graduated at music school the masterclass for violin. With 14 years, he composed his first violin concerto in a-major, which he presented the king of Belgium at that time, who granted him a distinguished award. 1910 coming back to Vienna he began to study law, after qualifying for university entrance at Wels.
Afterwards he occupied himself exclusively with music, was 2 years a student of Prof. Camillo Horn, composed classical at the beginning, but Viennese music, mainly Viennese songs, operettas and playsongs have founded his reputation.

The work of Heinrich Strecker includes over 350 works provided with Opus-numbers, the most of it are popular compositions, songs of various style. His greatest success he had in the field of the Viennese-song and the operetta. Songs like "Drunt in der Lobau", "Das war in Petersdorf", "Ja, ja der Wein ist gut", "Ja, hätt ma's net, so tät ma's net", "Sing mir das Lied noch einmal" are world-famous examples of this style. The operettas "Mädel aus Wien", "Der ewige Walzer", "Ännchen von Tharau" had and have hundreds of performances. Over 20 musical-shows like "Lorelei", "Erzherzog Johann", "Die Kleine vom Zirkus" come from his pen-nib. Sound-tracks "Narren im Schnee", "Meine Tochter lebt in Wien", "Vier Mädels aus der Wachau" and all kinds of Viennese-dance music from marches to the waltz show his wealth of musical ideas. The finishing of his last operetta "Honeymoon", he lived to see that. "Honeymoon" is the complete revise of an old pattern, the operetta "Küsse im Mai" playing in the world of a bee-state.
In words of his lyric writer B.Hardt-Warden, with this operetta he did his best. For his work he received important awards and many honorary memberships. After a cardiac infarct Strecker died on the 28 th June1981 in Baden at Vienna.
